The Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care by Dr. Benjamin Spock was first published in 1945.
The following is the list of recommended items to have for the new baby:
three to six stockinette gowns: 1 year size
six dozen diapers, large size
three to six long sleeved cotton shirts
three to six pads for under baby in the crib
three to six sheets for the crib
blankets for swaddling and the crib
knitted caps for cold weather
booties and socks for after baby is sitting up
As for special occasions. Dr. Spock wrote, “Dresses make a baby look pretty, but are unnecessary otherwise, and bothersome to the baby and the mother.”
Do you have pictures of baby clothing, accessories or equipment past or present?
We’d love to see them! @casaverdepeds
